Brace Rule — 2026
ATF brace rule (2021R-08F) vacated July 17, 2025 in Mock v. Bondi. Braced pistols revert to statutory definition — a firearm is only an SBR if barrel <16" OR OAL <26" AND designed to fire from the shoulder. A brace is not a stock under current enforcement.
14.5" Pinned Muzzle Device
A 14.5" barrel with a permanently pinned/welded muzzle device bringing total barrel length to ≥16" counts as a legal 16"+ barrel — no NFA required. The weld must be professional and inspected — device cannot be removable. Common legal workaround. Cost: ~$50–100 at most gunsmiths.
